Testimonials
This fall, I had the pleasure of using the new E-Z open knife, sold by Gerber and designed by Rick Young. It worked slick for making all the cuts for a life sized taxidermy mount on my Stone Sheep, without fear of cutting myself or of making a sloppy cut on the animal's skin. It is also great for making the cuts for cleaning an animal, without rupturing the stomach or intestines. It is not just a new "gadget", but truly a useful and innovative tool for any big game hunter or guide. It will be one of the first items in my pack when I head out for my next hunt, either for myself or with a client.

Thanks again Rick -
The knife worked like champ, it made easy work of the typical difficult
areas that most knives can hardly handle. I was impressed buy the way it
cut though even the thickest of hair, and remained just as sharp during
the last pass as if it was the first. I also noticed that my hand and
fingers are still in tact, I rarely get away without cuts to my fingers
when dressing out Elk..... Kudos!
Thanks again

I love the knife.
I used it last week on some ducks.
I did the guy thing...I used it with out reading the directions.
Skinned some ducks just they were butter.
The curved surface fit the duck breasts, and made the skinning so quick
and simple, with very little effort. I love the fact that I did not
have to go back and forth over the surface of the duck breast, the
curved knife just fit the surface and smoothly pealed away the skin,
Now I need to read the directions and see what else I can do with it.
I am excited to get some more in our shop for the cleaning of the birds. I don’t want to give up mine!!

Dear Rick,
Thank you for the coming up with a knive that finaly has a great design, I used a few days ago on a Coyoty and it was amazing, I could really feel the ball riding up the meat of the leg. this knife is going to be a Taxidermist #1 tool, and it should be in every hunters back pack.
Thanks again,

Dear Rick,
The knife is an awesome design. I like the way it feels in my hand and that it doesn't slip when it's wet. I like the safety factor especially when my son is using it.
I watched your video Bull Mania and It is very exciting and action packed. I didn't move till it was over great job. Everyone should see this I know it got me pumped about hunting season.
Good Luck to you on your up coming season.

This knife is a true innovation. Almost like installing a zipper on the animal! Talk about saving time! This knife will save time and give anyone (novice or pro) a clean cut that every taxidermist will appreciate. It will only help you!

Rick,
Just went down to Winter Spring Farms to skin some goats and sheep with your knife. Worked like a champ. Holds an edge like you won't belive. Rick great new knife to work with.
Anyone that is in the woods for a long time chasing animals around needs to look at this knife real hard, it's lite weight and compact design will work in any hunting conditions. Out of a lodge or drop camps to do it your self hunts. I like this knife!!!!

Hey Rick,
I just wanted to get back to you like I said I would. I did have a chance to use the Metolius knife down in Texas and everyone there, including the skinners, were quite impressed. It was easy to use and made haste of the tedious cuts so thank you. take care,

Rick,
I just wanted to let you know how thrilled I was this past week when I got
the chance to use the EZ Open knife on a cow elk my partner and I shot.
Honestly we had forgotten about and when we remember we dug it out of our
packs. It worked BETTER than your demonstration! We zippered her open and
ultimately used it also in the skinning process. Just wanted to say thanks
and appreciate the quality and usability this knife delivers!

Rick-
I wacked a pronghorn and a whitetail buck last week with my bow. My buddy Kirk also scored on a pronghorn. As you know, Pronghorn hide is very different that deer and elk in that the hairs are hyper-sensative to fall out and to get damaged/bent. The more time you spend handling the hide, the more damange you do.
Your knive, once again, made quick work of all three animals. The speed at which a hunters gets his animal skinned/caped is rediculously faster now. My caping lines are straighter, much less hair loss at the point of cutting, and the speed...still amazes me.
After 4 animals and 15 tuna, I finally sharpened the knife. Then I committed a sin. I gave the knife to a taxidermist and AVID elk hunter friend of mine (Tim Tuttle) to try out. He was skeptical. He just called and said they have killed 3 bulls so far this past week and is just thrilled at how fast he can cape and get a hide ready for quarting with that knife!
You told me the new versions have a sharper angle on the blade, he took the knive in today to a local knife maker and had him put a sharper angle on it, and he said I don't get it back and that he will be using it in his taxidermy shop to speed up his process of caping clients animals.
I need 2 more knives!! Let me know where / how I can get them. Attached pic of buck and goat, and of knife in action on 2nd goat!

Rick,
This is a great knife to get that first long cut of the hide off any animal and bird. I've already done two deer, an elk and a goose with this. The tip prevents you from accidentally cutting into the gut layer before your ready. It's easy to sharpen with a simple pencil sharpener. It's great to make a nice straight line cut for a bear rug or deer/elk shoulder mount. For fish, it's great for making that cut on a salmon or steelhead and not puncturing the skeins of the eggs. I know exactly what I'll be getting my hunting & fishing buddies Christmas this year.

I bought 10 of these knives to give to friends and family this summer. After skinning 5 deer and a black bear, I bought 20 more so I could give them to my customers that hunt. Once i got a deer out of the truck, I could have it gut, skinned and hanging in 15 minutes start to finish. The EZ Open works great for slit cuts, but I also used it for gutting and skinning. If you have a knife with a tip, you can poke a hole in the diaphragm and then run your EZopen around the inside of the ribs. It also works well if you cut around the deers cornhole when you are skinning. You can cut around on the inside without popping the bladder and guts. Then when I skin, you can poke the ball between the hide and the meat, push it in and slide the blade. It's extremely fast for gutting and skinning. When we did the bear a couple weeks back, the guy that shot it was using his little skinning knife trying to skin the arms and was just making lots of knicks in the hide. I went a got my EZopen and we did the three legs and finished his before he was done. It's a really great knife, hunters love them for gifts and they are a great price. Good job Rick.

Hey Rick,
It was great meeting you at the PDX Sports Show. I can't wait to try out this knife on some birds this weekend!
